A landman, at least one who works in the oil industry, will act as an intermediary between exploration companies and landowners. It is usually the landowner’s job to negotiate and finalize agreements with landowners with mineral rights to lease those rights to the company they represent.

Basically, they manage the land and secure their leases so they can drill for oil and gas. Like a foreman on a construction site, they build roads, worker housing (the human camp), assemble drilling equipment, and drill the well itself, especially in remote areas. They are also part-time repairers, problem solvers, and facilitators.

Landman is my first Taylor Sheridan series, so I don’t have the expectations that seem to come from being a Yellowstone fan. The main plot so far is engaging and exciting, but it doesn’t go very far. There are some subplots that fit well throughout the episodes, but perhaps one compromises the overall quality of the show.
The actors portray their characters well
The visual output is noteworthy; the direction and environment creation is nice. It would be interesting to hear the perspective of people who work in the industry on how realistic the field scenes are. Billy Bob Thornton is exemplary and drives the show very well.
